The Influence1 Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, was organized exclusively for purposes to include educational management, community engagement and economic development. Initiated as a philanthropic measure of its founder, Influence1 has grown to serve the local community in multiple capacities with varying programs geared for community and youth enrichment.

 

In addition to its charter schools, City University School of Liberal Arts, City University School Boys Preparatory, City University School Girls Preparatory, and City University School of Independence, Influence1 is also responsible for the 38106 Joint Agency Collaborative, 1Urban Gallery, and the Memphis Starts With Me^© community program.

City University Schools is a network of open-enrollment college preparatory schools established under Tennessee charter school laws in under-resourced communities throughout the state.

 

Since its founding in 2004, City University Schools strives to meet the need of public education as well as the demand for alternative institutions committed to post-secondary preparation.

 

Each school operates on the principles of providing a valuable, well-rounded academic experience through the support of a diverse and dedicated group of qualified educators and administrative staff, an extended school year and rigorous college preparatory curriculum.

Qualifications: Teacher Certification, Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree required or enrolled in a TEP program.

 

Reports To: Campus President & Deans

 

Job Goal: To provide scholars with support instruction in the areas of Algebra I & II and Geometry.  Math support will be included as needed.

 

Job Description:

• Reports to school office at beginning of school day to pick up required materials/schedule of classes and at the end of the school day to return materials.  Follows sign in/out procedures as prescribed by the Campus President.
• Guides the learning process and employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for the achievement of The Tutoring Lab's goals and objectives.
• Promotes The Tutoring Lab's status as an academic safety net for scholars and support reinforcement center for learning in the classroom
• Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the scholars.
• Evaluates scholars' strengths and weaknesses.
• Provides remedial instructional training to retest scholars’ performances.
• Analyzes bi-weekly data reports to determine scholars’ progress as well as areas of need.
• Maintains a data notebook from professors to monitor scholars’ progress in the classroom and determine scholars’ needs.
• Identifies target SPI’s as determined by the data in the notebook and provides individual/group tutoring and reinforcement.  
• Acquires supplemental assignments from professors that support individual and collective scholars’ needs
• Reports results of all practice probes in order to determine the next area of need.
• Insures that the scholars are never left unattended in the classroom.
• Knows emergency evacuation routes for the classrooms assigned.
• Knows procedures for referring scholars who are disciplinary problems.
• Knows school procedures and regulations. 
• Takes attendance in accordance with school procedures.
• Indicates to scholars the basic expectations for behavior in the class in accordance with school regulations and policies.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

• Candidate must be at least 18 years of age.
• Candidate must attend an orientation/training session.
• Candidate must agree to authorize The Influence1 Foundation to conduct a Criminal History Search/fingerprinting.
• Candidate must possess good moral character.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS

Duties performed typically in school settings to include: classrooms, gymnasium, cafeteria, auditorium, and recreational areas. Frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting, up to approximately 30 pounds and occasional lifting of equipment and/or materials weighing up to 40 pounds may be required. Other physical activities may be required. Occasional travel with scholars on field trips may be necessary. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the employee is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise and hazards. Occasional movement of scholars by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required. Regular Instruction to special-needs children may be necessary. Daily personal and close contact with children to provide classroom management and learning environment support is required on assigned days. Regular contact with other staff members and building administrator(s) is required.
